Aly's Newsletter: Happy Monday!
Starting the week with job leads, puppy photos, and a bunch of new pending assignments.
Hope everyone had a good weekend!
It was pretty cold and nasty in NYC this weekend, and I spent much of it catching up on work and doing a bit of batch cooking to freeze for future lazy nights.
That’s honestly my simple, rather basic, tip for avoiding wasting money on takeout - always save a portion or two of anything you cook to freeze for another day. You may be feeling too tired or stressed or overwhelmed to cook a meal some nights, but if there’s something in the freezer already cooked that you can reheat, you are a lot less likely to order that unnecessary delivery.
In exciting news (well, to me. Not to them), the girls went to the groomer this weekend and got their Valentine’s Day ‘do. They were really annoyed the whole ride there in the car, and I tried to impart upon them what I’d give to spend a few hours at the salon (especially during these times). But they did NOT see my point.
I would love to say I got them to pose for photos, but not so much. I’m kind of still in the dog house. However, I got these before they could escape…
As I said….they aren’t pleased.
"Hey Cassie? Quick question..."
God, you guys. Last night's episode of Euphoria was WILD. Someone give Zendaya all the awards.
I am also watching Hulu's Pam and Tommy miniseries and...I"m really upset with myself for being as engrossed as I am.
Someone needs to take my TV away from me.

Here's what I'm working on for this week:
1 - For Taste of Home: I'm rounding up Best Craft Kits for Kids That Love to Create - please limit pitches to the following retailers - Etsy, Amazon (please limit Amazon pitches to those having a four star rating and be reviewed minimally 500 times), Cricut, Walmart, Target, Joanne, Oriental Trading. At this point, I'm hoping to stick to the categories of Woodworking, Painting, Cooking, Sewing, Birdhouse and Drawing. I'm pretty firmed up in any other category.
2 - For SPY.com, I'm working on the following:
a - President's Day Sales: This is an update of this story from last year - if you want an example of the kind of deals I'm looking for, and NOT looking for (so don't waste your time) check out the link to the previous version. But as you can see, keeping it pretty comprehensive.
b - I'm also rounding up science fiction books written by women. If you are pitching for this one, please include the name of the book and a link to where it's sold and a description when pitching. Also very open to expert commentary discussing the importance of the role of women in the sci fi genre.
For any of these stories, please start a new email thread and email firstname.lastname@example.org.
