How to send a pitch (if you want journalists to be interested, that is)
I average somewhere around 800 emails a day. It can be more or less depending on that week's workload, the time of year (holiday gift guide time is killer!), or even the day of the week. Mondays tend to be the busiest inbox days while Friday afternoons are generally slower.
That isn't meant to be a humble brag about how busy I am as much as, when there's so much going on in an inbox, it's easy to get lost in the shuffle. It's similar to when we talk about mailers -- you want to send a mailer that will stick out in the right ways and get you noticed. The same needs to be said for pitches.
