Industry Insights Edition: How To Be Productive While Working From A Hotel Room

alywalansky.substack.com

Good morning!

I had the best night last night at the opening night party for Martha Stewart's new restaurant at the Paris hotel in Las Vegas. Sampled some delish bites (obsessed with the Oysters Rockefeller!) and met some fabulous new friends.

I'm right now in my hotel room getting ready for a really busy day (which yes, does involve more Martha-related excitement but also a John Legend concert tonight!), but getting these industry insights newsletters out on the day and time you expect to receive them is incredibly important to me, so I woke up a bit early to build this into my Saturday morning before my day starts.

FIRST, an alert specifically for Vegas-area friends: A bunch of you have reached out about getting together while I’m here, and it made me SO sad to think I’d miss out on seeing any of you — so I came up with a plan.

I have a bit of a break in my itinerary tomorrow afternoon (Sunday). If I situate myself in the lobby bar area of my hotel (I'll of course tell you where that is when you respond), would you want to stop by for a sort of on-the-fly meet and greet?

This is SUPER casual and basically a way of me maximizing the people I can see with limited available time, and not let any of my friends, or myself, down by missing out on seeing them  -- straight up, what I'll do is find a cozy spot, sit there for an hour or two, and ANYONE who wants to stop by and say hi, buy a drink or coffee, and chat for a little bit, finally hug in real life, is welcome.

This is NOT for pitching or work - but just a friendly social impromptu hang sort of thing. Let me know if you are available and interested and I'll email you the details if I can make it work (it'd be mid-afternoon tomorrow (Sunday.).

For today's newsletter, I wanted to talk a bit about working from hotel rooms, and specifically why this is useful (and necessary) in our fields. Whether you are a publicist, a writer, or in another field (I kind of want to do a poll at some point to grab a rundown), this makes our work a lot more manageable -- and possible! -- no matter where work takes us.

Here's what I need in order to work in a hotel room, and what you should always look out for when working from your own:
