Industry Insights: How To Avoid The Dreaded Email Bounce (Plus: Save the date for a special upcoming AMA event!)
Happy Saturday!
Before we get into the nitty gritty of today’s email, I had a save-the-date I wanted to put on your radar!
You may have noticed in Thursday’s email, I shared a podcast appearance I had recently done on my friend
’s Freelance Writing Direct Podcast. In the episode, we got in depth on topics ranging from finding a niche in writing, to the gift of Substack when it comes to time management to the secrets to building sustainable relationships…and so much more.SO much more, in fact, that Estelle and I had the idea to do a joint AMA for our Substack audiences soon! Tune in Thursday, September 5 at 4:30 PM ET for a Mental Margarita AMA Chat with Journalists Aly Walansky and Estelle Erasmus (yes, we’re going for happy hour format on this one!), where we’ll open the floor to questions from journalists and PR and anyone else who wants to stop by.
Perhaps we may touch on topics related to pitching tips and tricks, interview/commentary best practices, verifying sources, and much more — but ask anything you want, all is good!
We are limited (by Zoom’s attendee cap) to 100 participants, so sign up now and register your questions in advance!
RSVP: Email us (please start a new email thread and don’t just hit reply on this one) if you are interested in attending and we'll share the Zoom link when we confirm. Priority for this Zoom event will go to paid subscribers but we’ll open the velvet rope to all subscribers if space allows! So, if you RSVP and can no longer make it, be sure to let us know. And if you have questions you want to send in advance, feel free — but you can always ask them live day-of!
OK, now to today’s email!
Today…I’m going to chat about bouncing.
And by the bounce, I mean the thing that everyone emailing for any reason can't stand -- the inexplicable email bounce.
…and how to avoid it.
Emails are a huge part of what we do. I receive several hundred -- on a slow day -- and as many as 1,000 on a busier day - and it's normal for me to send several hundred in a day, too. We want the emails sent to us to get to us, and we want the same for the ones we send in return.
So, if you are noticing your delivery rate of your emails leaves something to be desired, you may want to look into a few things...
