Industry Insights: Some Of The Biggest PR Questions About All Those Media Layoffs...Answered
Part 2 of our Zoom Ask Us Anything recap
A few weeks ago, I teamed up with my good friends and lifestyle writer colleagues Alice Dubin and Jill Schildhouse on Zoom to discuss everything from AI/ChatGPT to the very concerning current media landscape.
The response was overwhelming. We hit capacity nearly instantly and we know that so many of you wanted to attend but couldn’t either because we reached capacity too quickly or timing didn’t work out (hey, we’re all busy, we get it!).
So to help out anyone who missed out, or just was too busy asking questions and contributing to the conversation to take notes, we are sharing lightly edited Q&As from the transcript of the conversation divided into various topic areas.
First, we shared some of our discussion related to AI/ChatGPT-related questions. In this next part of the transcript, we touch on the other topic on everyone’s minds right now: All those media layoffs in recent months, and what it means for everyone, from us as freelancers to you as publicists.
Just yesterday in Jill’s Substack, she wrote an incredibly insightful post about the difference between relationship vs. transactional pitching. I strongly encourage everyone click over and read it. Understanding that difference comes into play in a big way in the current landscape as maintaining and valuing relationships is more important than ever — and it was always pretty darn important. Assignments and beats and jobs will come and go but it’s the people and relationships that will last.
Let’s delve in right now and chat about what’s going on and what needs to happen next.
