Hi, friends!
As I mentioned in yesterday's newsletter, my favorite local spot for gumbo is closing as of today. I couldn't resist - I just had to order myself a big bowl of their spicy seafood gumbo for lunch today as a way of saying goodbye.
I’m actually eating it right now, as I type this, and listen in on a product preview presentation on Zoom…how’s that for multi-tasking. Thank goodness for the camera-off option, or everyone would see me slurping away as I type…)
(PS: Gumbo Bros. is closing their Brooklyn location (which is their original location) as of later today but their Nashville location does remain open! So it's an excuse to go there. And go to Nashville. Both are never a bad idea. And actually always a good idea.)
Takeout is an exceedingly rare treat for me (obviously warranted today!) - but I actually just wrote a HerMoney story for those people out there who find themselves with a takeout and delivery habit and see it busting their budget. Can't stop yourself from ordering takeout and delivery and need to find ways to do it more affordably? Here's how to be smarter about it.
While we're on the subject of delivery, as much as I don't do prepared food takeout on a regular basis, i DO order groceries. This was especially true at the height of the pandemic. So many of us are obsessed with grocery delivery apps for various reasons, and they too can get pricey if we're not careful. Also for HerMoney, Here's how to use them and save some cash at the same time.
In other news, if you don't love to cook, but also don't do takeout/delivery, you probably are a big peanut butter fan. You may want to take note of this major recall I wrote about for The Kitchn this morning: There’s a Recall on These Skippy Peanut Butter Varieties — Here’s What You Need to Know.
If you or your client are featured in any of these stories, I super appreciate any social shares tagging me (I'm @alywalansky basically everywhere) and the outlet.
Here's what I'm working on:
Be sure to read the below list carefully. Many are stories I posted about yesterday, but some of yesterday's stories are no longer listed and a few new ones have been added since yesterday. This (below) is everything that is still a currently open opportunity as of today.
Clean Plates
I'm rounding up healthy Mother's Day gifts you can get on Amazon. Can be foods / snacks / organic chocolates / wellness oriented stuff... anything that fits into the whole Clean Plates theme (so you. may want to take a gander at the site to have an idea of the kind of stuff that may work before pitching) - I'm looking to include a range of prices, but keep everything from the $10 range to like $100.
HerMoney
For HerMoney.com, I'm working on the following:
1 - Mother's Day gifts under $100 that will make her have a better day every day
2 - Eco-Friendly Gift Ideas to celebrate Earth Day Right
Today.com
I'm looking for restaurant chains nationwide doing special deals/discounts for tax day. If you have any, please email me with what the restaurant is (chains only please), what the freebie/discount/deal is, and how to claim it.
I'm also rounding up deals at restaurant/food chains for MOTHER'S DAY. (This is a month away obviously, so I have a bit of time to play with this one) - for either of these, please be sure to send the name of the chain, what the deal is, and how customers can claim it. (Do they need a promo code? A rewards app? A QR code? etc)
To pitch me for ANY of these stories, please email me at alywalansky@gmail.com (and start a new thread, please!).
