Aly, I am so glad to read your thoughts on paid vs. unpaid - I've had several chats about that with colleagues this week and there's been two interesting posts in the PR subreddit on exactly that. I am so curious if their editors know about charging for pitch opportunities, and what they would say.
i'm sure if their editors knew they'd be no longer assigning to them - what they are doing is the equivalent of P2P and SURE not kosher. but furthermore - there's a lot of publicists out there who aren't really differentiating between substacks and substack creators/journalists/authors - and assuming if one is doing that, we all are. I can tell you I had a FLURRY of unsubscribes in the last few days - and the timing really makes me wonder if it's because these people assume because some people don't know how to be ethical, the rest of us don't either.
